PigTracks is a B2B SaaS platform used by pipeline operators to monitor pigging operations, manage survey data, and maintain visibility across complex, high-stakes field workflows.
PigTracks needed to keep shipping while its product grew more complex...but without a clear product UX lens, developers were forced to guess on workflows, usability, and UI behavior, increasing the risk of rework and fragmentation.

As the product grew, new features added without UX strategy started creating tech debt and rework. Pig Tracks needed to bring in UX expertise before adding on
PigTracks hit the point where engineers were guessing on workflows and UI because no one owned UX product decisions.
As the business grew, there was a bigger need for a more robust product
"Pigging" refers to a pipeline maintenance process where mechanical devices called "pigs" pass through a pipeline and special sensors in order to clean, inspect for damage, and monitor the health of pipelines throughout America. Traditionally done manually in a truck and some spreadsheets, Pig Tracks changes the way we monitor pipeline integrity by allowing teams to guage the health remotely and more accurately.
The problem
Traditionally, users could submit survey data that was incomplete or incorrect without realizing it, creating silent failures and causing guesswork to figure out why their calulations weren't working right.
What we did
Make validation visible and unavoidable at the moment of upload instead of fixing issues later.
Why it mattered
This shifted responsibility to the user, reduced QA overhead, and increased trust in the data entering the system.
The problem
Operators needed to see a high volume of ever-changing data that was crucial for monitoring in one place.
The decision
Prioritize clarity of state and status over dense information, even when more data was available.
Why it mattered
Users could quickly understand what required attention without digging through raw data, reducing misinterpretation and decision fatigue.
The problem
Adding a passage is one of the most important actions an operator needed to do. While they also needed to monitor live data changes to multiple projects, they needed a way to add a passage without losing that detracting from their data needs.
The decision
Make an omni-present "Add a Passage" button that triggered a side panel to allow for the ability to add a passage from any page.
Why it mattered
This made workflows quicker and prevented oeprators from missing important data changes while they were documenting a passage.
The problem
Many operators and managers work on several projects. It's hard to stay motivated for career growth when it's ever-changing and each project is new.
The decision
Create individual cards to allow users to see their overall stats and involvement of their career. The cards sit on the dashboard and give users a visual and shareable mode to promote themselves, secure their statistics, and watch their growth.
Why it mattered
Gave users a sense of pride in their work, and concrete numbers to negotiate new roles to further their career.
