What's blocking your product growth?

Your software isn't as easy to use as it needs to be.

Your product "works"... but feels more like a early prototype than an actual product that someone wants to pay for.

Chances are your product is confusing or hard to use because UX wasn't a priority earlier.

That's okay, but now if you want to keep growing and graduate from "look at this cool idea" to "Get everyone at your company to use our product, pay me lots of money" then you need to start factoring in UX and usability,

...or else you'll stay stagnant or lose interest from customers.

What can you do?

1. Conduct user tests! Not just asking people "what do you think?" but observing which parts they are stumbling on.

2. Run a UX Audit. Use a UX Audit checklist to see if your product is optimized to make someone's experience better. (Even if you're not a UX expert)

✅ How to Test with your Users

  1. Give the participant tasks to complete
Aim for important flows in the tool, and watch them do it.
(Ex. "Walk me through how you would generate a new report from last months orders")
  2. Don't tell them how do it (even if they are struggling) - this is how you find of where and what is confusing
  3. Record the call.
(Let them know when they sign up)
This will let you focus on being totally present and not fixated on notetaking, and remove any bias of interpretation up to your memory
  4. Ask follow-up questions to better understand what they are thinking
(Ex. "Tell me more about that." "What did you mean when you said ___"
  1. Compensate for their time.
It's common to offer giftcard (I do a $20 for 30 min call).

If you have no money, offer them free access to the tool or something else.

Even if you don't have alot to spare, you'll get more people to help and give more quality answers that you are making business decisions on.
  2. Ask open-ended questions about their background/experience.

(Ex. "When was the last time you needed to file a report?" "Tell me about it?" "What did you need it for?"
  3. Ask open-ended questions about your product.
("What are your first impressions of this page?" "Were there any parts of ____ that were confusing?" "What would you expect to happen if you were to ____?")

✅ What do I look for in a UX Audit?

  1. Are all the buttons clear with where they lead?
  2. Can you undo something?
  3. Can you tell where you are in the experience?
  4. If you make a mistake, is that communicated to you?
  5. Do sequential tasks flow into each other seamlessly?
  6. Do you know what is expected of you at the start of each task?
  7. Is it clear which parts you can, and should be interacting with?
